More Cold War buildings

 Another base of cold war buildings for 80s gaming. Models are by Leven miniatures, wich are now carried by https://battlescale.com/ .

M60s in the background are Heroics and Ros but thats for another day.

Back to Cold War.

 Its been a while, too long realy, but I have been able to work on a new model for 6mm Cold War games. Another Timecast idustrial unit with fences from Ratio Plastic Model's N gauge range and a skip from Perfect 6 miniatures. The fence is a little fragile so time will tell if it stands up to wargamers sausage fingers!

Almost completed my Soviets for Cold War Commander. This is the last tank unit I had left to do. This is a battalion of T55AMVs by Heroics and Ros (SM128). One of their newer casts and is a beautiful sculpt and great value at £0.75 ( as of May 2020)

This just leaves a battalion of infantry and their supports and thats about it.

American Engineers.

Finished some engineers for my American battle group. First up the heavy stuff, a M728 C.E.V(USM33) and a M60 AVLB(USM37) both by H&R.

 The engineering company can also be used to bolster the regular infantry, especially in defence.

A10 Thuderbolt(USMA417),not the best model from H&R but they paint up just fine. Camo is "European 1" scheme, low vis decals are by Dom's Decals.

American M2 Bradleys

The Bradley fighting vehicle was Americans response to the Soviet BMP series of mechanised infantry fighting vehicles introduced in the mid 1960s. Faster than a M113, its greater speed allows the infantry to keep pace with with the M1 Abrams.
The Hq consists of a Heriocs and Ros M577 and a M2 Bradley.

American Command Units

After sometime away from 6mm gaming completing an American Civil War  project in 15mm, I now have some Modern American units completed. The MERDC cammo pattern is based on an article by Steven Zaloga, originally published in Military Modelling. I was fortunate to find a copy at the Grimsby club, for those interested a PDF can be found on this site  http://www.hobbyhavoc.com/oldhavoc/index.php?topic=1230.0 . At the club we have all decided to base our armies around 1985. This was an interesting time for the Americans as they were undergoing another structural organisation as well as introducing new equipment and transitioning from MERDC to NATO 3 colour camouflage. Because of this you see plenty of older equipment in MERDC and newer equipment in a basic Forrest Green factory finish, as the NATO scheme wasn't officially adopted till about '86/'87. Its this mix of old and new I've tried to depict in my units.
First up is the CO stand on a 40mmx40mm base and consists of a a H&R M113, M577 and a Hummer personal carrier.

 Next are the FAO and FAC stands based on 2 pence pieces. These consist of 2 FIST-V artillery observer vehicles  and a air liaison team in a Hummer. The FIST-V is identical to the Improved TOW vehicle so this is the model I've used.

Air support.

Completed a couple of pieces . The SU27 "Flanker"(SMA410) is mainly for use in the up coming   Crisis Point, "Arctic Strike" game. The MIL-24 "Hind F"(SMA507) is for more general club games but should see some use at Crisis Point. Both models are from Heroics and Ros.

More Works in progress.

Picked up some of Timecasts  excellent  apartment blocks(23/004) from their modern range. All based on mdf with embossed plastic card for the paving. Speaking to them at the York show  they are hoping to release some more modern buildings later on in the year.

I have also started on the final MIL24 "HIND F"(SMA507),  from Heroics and Ros , for my attack helicopter squadron. A very nice model, cleanly cast with virtually no flash and simple to assemble.

Soviet Bridge layers.

In addition to the Bridging and amphibious units I also have some bridgelayers to deal with small rivers and streams as well as tank ditches etc. Once again a mixture of manufacturers.
Skytrex produce a MTU Bridgelayer (M721). This appears to be a MTU 20. I've left the folding ramps off to make it more "playable".

Heroics and Ros  produce an MT55 Bridgelayer (SM47). Scotia make a nice model of a TMM Bridgelayer (RM0024), which are often found with non armoured units.

Soviet Bridging Units.

The ability to cross water and other obstacles is a must for any modern army, especially one on the attack. Most of my bridging is by Scotia and Skytrex , with a few pieces by Heroics&Ros. Unfortunately Skytrex's recent price rise, coupled with  their high postal charges , now mean they are no longer good value for money compared to other manufacturers. A shame as they did some models not available else where.

A much nicer offering comes from Scotia and consists of a PMP Bridge Centre Section (RM0022) and a PMP Bridge Ramp Section (RM0023). The two bridging companies each consist of two ramp sections and three centre sections.Scotia also do a nice model of a BMK-T Bridging Boat and truck (RM0099), and a BMK-T bridging Boat, waterline model,(RM0100). The boats are used to nudge and hold the pontoons in place during construction.

Skytrex also do a model of a PTS-M heavy amphibian but this is incorrectly described as a BTS-M Heavy Amphibian (M773). A useful model as they are also used by Soviet Naval Infantry units.

Finally Skytrex model a GSP Amphibious Ferry (M774). I decided to model this as a deployed waterline model, after grinding away with a dremel for 20 minutes. As it stands the models cannot easily be shown in the travelling configuration as the base of the model that forms the upper section is lacking in detail and had a manufacturers code cast into it. A shame as I don't think any one else makes one.
